Module Title: Mastering the ADDIE Model for Novice Instructional Designers
Module Goals:
- Understand and apply the ADDIE model systematically.
- Utilize practical tools and templates to enhance instructional design projects.
- Reflect and iterate to improve learning outcomes in real-world settings.
What is the Development Phase in ADDIE?
The third phase of ADDIE is – Development, that is creating or building instructional environments, learning resources, and instructional materials, based on the design blueprint, to resolve observed performance problems.
The Development phase focuses on creating and testing the teaching materials and methodology. Designers use data from the Analysis and Design phases to build a program that effectively delivers the required content to learners. While the earlier stages involved planning, this phase is about execution. Key tasks include drafting materials, producing content, and evaluating the outcomes.
Development foci are
• Using media to create an environment or materials
• Creating storyboard sets of instruction
• Developing learning resources and materials
• Conducting formative evaluation
• Finalizing all environments, learning resources, materials for implementation
Practical Tools & Templates:
1. Content Development Checklist:
- Clear, concise language.
- Visual aids (diagrams, images).
- Interactive activities (quizzes, scenarios).
2. Multimedia Tools:
- Canva: Design visual aids.
- Articulate 360 or Rise: Create e-learning modules.
- Vyond: For animated videos.
Example:
For customer service training:
- Develop a video demonstration of the complaint process.
- Include a role-playing scenario in the e-learning module.
Reflection Prompt:
- Does my content effectively teach the skills and behaviors needed to meet the objectives?
