Module Title: Mastering the ADDIE Model for Novice Instructional Designers

Module Goals:

  1.  Understand and apply the ADDIE model systematically.
  2. Utilize practical tools and templates to enhance instructional design projects.
  3. Reflect and iterate to improve learning outcomes in real-world settings.

What is the Evaluation Phase in ADDIE?

The fifth phase of ADDIE is – Evaluation or the data collection and analysis process to identify the level of success in resolving observed performance problems.

The Evaluation phase is the final stage of the ADDIE model, involving a thorough review of the project to assess what was achieved and how it was done. This phase includes two parts: Formative evaluation, which occurs during the program to provide ongoing feedback, and Summative evaluation, which happens at the end to measure overall success. The primary goal is to determine if the objectives were met and identify improvements needed to enhance the program’s effectiveness and outcomes.

Evaluation foci are to
• Gather appropriate data on the value of the instruction
• Determine if the performance gap was closed
• Disseminate results
• Determine next steps

Practical Tools & Templates:

1. Evaluation Checklist:

    • Were objectives met?
    • What feedback was gathered?
    • What revisions are needed?

2. Kirkpatrick’s Evaluation Model:

    • Level 1: Reaction (Did learners like the training?).
    • Level 2: Learning (What did they learn?).
    • Level 3: Behavior (Did their behavior change?).
    • Level 4: Results (What impact did it have on the organization?).

Example:

For customer service training:

  • Formative: Collect post-session surveys.
  • Summative: Analyze complaint resolution rates over the next month.

Reflection Prompt:

  • What changes would I make to improve the training based on feedback?
