IDE 552 – Digital Media Production
Grade: A
Professor: Celestia Ohrazda

This course equips students with practical skills in designing, developing, and producing digital instructional media. Emphasizing effective message design, it explores multimedia tools, such as Camtasia, Clipchamp, WordPress, Pixlr, and Photoshop, and techniques for creating engaging learning materials aligned with instructional goals. Students apply design principles to produce digital content that supports diverse learning environments and delivery formats.

Primary Project

Project Title: Mastering Personal Essays for College Applications – eLearning Storyboard
Author: Soroth San

Project Description:
This assignment was completed for IDE 552 – Digital Media Production (Fall 2024, Syracuse University). In this individual project, I designed an eLearning storyboard for high school students applying to universities abroad. The module focused on teaching students how to craft compelling introduction paragraphs for personal essays by breaking down three core components: the hook, background information, and thesis statement. I created interactive scenarios, sample analyses, quizzes, and drag-and-drop exercises to reinforce learning. This project strengthened my skills in instructional sequencing, multimedia integration, and learner-centered design for digital environments while addressing real-world academic writing needs.

Project Title: eLearning Module: Interactive Video for Teaching How to Write an Introduction Paragraph
Author: Soroth San

Project Description:
This assignment was completed for IDE 552 – Digital Media Production (Fall 2024, Syracuse University). In this individual project, I used Camtasia to design and produce an interactive instructional video that teaches students how to write an effective introduction paragraph for a personal essay. The video includes narration, on-screen graphics, quizzes, and drag-and-drop exercises to enhance learner engagement and retention. This assignment strengthened my technical proficiency in Camtasia, as well as my ability to structure instructional content for digital delivery. It also deepened my understanding of how to apply multimedia tools to create learner-centered, interactive eLearning experiences.

Reflection & Self-Assessment

This project allowed me to deepen my understanding of digital instructional design by creating a structured, engaging, and learner-centered eLearning storyboard for high school students. I learned how to break down abstract writing skills into concrete, scaffolded components, including hook, background, and thesis, using narration, visuals, and interactive elements to guide understanding. Developing this storyboard strengthened my skills in audio scripting, sequencing, and quiz feedback design. One challenge was maintaining cognitive simplicity while still supporting higher-order thinking; I overcame this by aligning each element with specific objectives and ensuring timely learner feedback. Then, I turned the storyboard into an interactive eLearning video with built-in quizzes, which allowed me to learn how to use the tool, Camtasia and be creative in designing learner interaction through instructional video. This experience shifted my perspective on eLearning design from content-centered delivery to learner engagement. The final product contributes to the field by modeling a purposeful and accessible digital writing instruction for novice academic writers.
